A futon bed is a great alternative to a divan bed or a bed frame in a home, if it is to be used as a guest bed or occasional bed. A futon is a Japanese name for a mattress which traditionally had a fabric exterior and was filled with cotton. Japanese people would sleep on the futon mattress on the floor. Western futon mattresses are quite different and tend to be much thicker and more comfortable, and are incorporated into a configurable frame that can be used as seating. Futons beds can either have a metal or wooden frame and are available in the standard double bed size.
